How long should CoolSculpting saddlebags take?

Question

I went for a Coolsculpting consult for my saddlebags at a new medical spa. The doc said the procedure will take two hours long: one hour for each side. I saw the applicator and it is not the one that uses suction. From what I've been reading, the process should take 2 hours on each side=4 hours total. Can someone clarify please?

Thanks for your question. The old applicator for the "saddle bag" region was called CoolSmooth and took ~2hrs per side to complete treatment.  The new applicator, CoolSmooth Pro, takes ~75mins per side.  Best of luck with your treatment!

Hello,Thank you for your question. If you are referring to the CoolSmooth applicator with no suction, it take 75min. If they have two machines then you can treat both sides at the same time. This will allow you to be done with both sides in 75 min. Good luck!

Saddlebags are best treated with the CoolSmooth applicator, which does not use suction and lays flat against the skin. This newer handle is also faster than the original CoolSculpting applicator and can treat an area in about an hour and a quarter. At our center, we offer DualSculpting, which means that both sides of your body will be treated simultaneously — halving treatment time. The saddlebags are treated with a smooth non-suction applicator. The applicator takes 75 minutes per side. There are old smooth non-suction applicators that were about 2 hours per side, however, most clinics have upgraded to the newest technology. I would suggest partnering up with a Doctor who offers these new, shorter timed applicators.

Great question.There are many options to treat the saddle bags or outer thighs. Coolsculpting is definitely one way. It typically takes two to three sessions on each side. The newer Coolsculpting Coolsmooth Pro applicator provides the same surface freezing in 75 minutes per outer thigh per session than the original coolsmooth applicator did in 90 min. In my office and as an ABMS board certified Plastic Surgeon, I perform ALL the patient evaluations for fat reduction so that each patient best understands ALL their options to sculpt and contour the area in question. If you choose to use Coolsculpting for the outer thigh instead of laser liposuction (a local anesthesia procedure using the Smart Lipo technology) I will demonstrate the way I will need to place the flat Coolsculpting Coolsmooth Pro applicator on the outer thigh to effectively reduce the fat bulge or pocket. Because the outer thigh saddle bag is typically a wider raised area and the applicator lies flat and contours over the bulge, you will typically need to return a total of 2-3 times so that I can 3 dimensionally contour the area to reduce the bulge and sculpt it properly. For many patients this is very effective because as you wait 6-8 weeks between sessions,  your outer thigh skin has the time to shrink over the area that was treated with coolsculpting that has frozen the fat bulge and then reduces fatty pocket. I prefer to wait until this fat reduction occurs after each session so that the end result is an improved contour of the outer thigh by reducing the fat prominence with the Coolsculpting Coolsmooth pro applicator. The answer to your question depends on which outer thigh or "saddlebag" applicator they have at that particular practice.  The first one that was introduced for this area was the CoolSmooth and it took 2 hrs per side (4 hrs total) for an outer thigh treatment.  The CoolSmooth Pro was then released which shortened the treatment cycle time to 1hr 15mins per side (2.5 hrs total).  I would call the office and discuss with them which applicator they have and how long do they expect you to be in the office for the treatment.  Hope that helps.

The most current applicator that Coolsculpting uses for the Outer thighs or "saddle bags" is the CoolSmooth Pro. This applicator does not have a suction feature and is meant to rest right on the outer thighs. This applicator is 1 hour and 15 minutes treatment time, per leg. The treatment time for the old CoolSmooths was 2 hours treatment time, per leg.

Hi and thanks for your question! Your confusion over the time needed for a CoolSculpting procedure is understandable, given recent changes to the device have created a new treatment protocol as well. The original CoolSculpting treatment for saddlebags did take two hours for each side, which meant a four-hour procedure for patients. However, the introduction of the new applicators has changed all that. Cycles of treatment can be as short as 35-45 minutes, but an individual may opt to have several areas treated in succession during one session (more than 1 cycle), so time spent during the treatment can vary widely.
