I have been recommended liposculpture 360 + retraction. I would like to kickstart my physique but still leave room for natural fitness goals in my abdomen, wary about superficial sculpting as I am younger and still pretty active. Can these procedures still be done to minimize my fat andstill leave room for natural fitness goal and “defining”. How do I tell my surgeon in procedure terms that I want to minimize the fat to see my natural abs not superficially sculpt abs from fat??

Answer: Body contouring Body contouring through liposuction and fat transfer for getting a waist-hip ratio and removing stubborn fat on the abdomen and flank for achieving a more athletic and fit look. On your consultation you and your surgeons decide what your body type is and what can be achieved, decide wether you want a high definition or soft definition, so you can get your natural abdominal muscle showing off. And you will tell him exactly the same thing as you asked here, it’s a perfect way to describe what your looking for!

Answer: Liposuction and what you should know Liposuction results are based on two variables. The first is the candidacy for the procedure of the patient and the second is the skill of the provider. A substantial number of people are not good candidates for Liposuction and these people are not going to have a good liposuction results no matter who does the procedure. And the rain consistent quality liposuction results it’s also more difficult than most people believe. There is more variation in outcome and Liposuction than any other plastic surgery procedure. Liposuction results are permanent and irreversible. If done poorly people are left disfigured. This can happen despite seeking the help of board-certified plastic surgeons with good reputation and years of experience. It’s bears saying twice. Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe. Personally I’m not a big fan of edging or doing high definition body contouring. The number of patients were a good candidate for high definition procedures is relatively few. You can give a good results on young men but what the results will look like when these people gain weight or develop skin laxity in later age is a different story. Because there is so much variation in liposuction results based on who does this procedure patient should be far more selective regarding provider selection than they think ever necessary. The number of providers who can truly deliver consistent quality liposuction results including making accurate assessment and show sufficient numbers of before and after pictures and then deliver results consistent with the patient true candidacy and based on previous work is actually relatively few. For all of these reasons I recommend patient be highly selective and schedule multiple in person consultations with board-certified plastic surgeons in their community before scheduling this permanent and irreversible procedure. To start the process I recommend getting a set of pictures taken of your body the same way plastic surgeons take before and after pictures. Print a copy of these pictures and use them for reference during consultations or whenever you are reviewing before and after pictures. Candidacy is half the procedure so understanding your own candidacy for Liposuction is paramount in understanding what the procedure can or cannot accomplish. I recommend each patient start by scheduling a minimum of five in person consultations and considering scheduling more if needed. I cannot emphasize the enough the importance of choosing only sufficiently skilled and talented providers for Liposuction. Again, being board-certified in plastic surgery with years of experience and overall good reputation does not mean that somebody has mastered or is good at Liposuction. During each consultation ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures. Ask providers to on the show you before and after pictures of patients who have similar body characteristics to your own. This is why you should bring pictures of yourself to the consultation. They should be of the same general age, same amount of skin laxity, same amount of subcutaneous fat etc. etc. Because candidacy for Liposuction varies greatly some people who are not good candidates are never going to have great results no matter who does the procedure. Those who are great candidates can get good results but only if they choose the right provider. In reality the majority of patients who seek liposuction are in fact average results and only sometimes do we get patients who are great candidates. some individuals are deemed to be poor candidates in which case Liposuction is not recommended. Not everybody is a good candidate for Liposuction. Providers may be apprehensive to show you anything but preselected images representing some of the best results of their career. Ask providers to show you examples that are excellent, average and the results that did not turn out as well as they had hoped. We all have a variety of outcomes and it’s fair game for patients to ask to see different quality outcomes. for reference and experience surgeon should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures of commonly performed procedures like liposuction. In fact highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or even thousands of before and after pictures of this procedure which is the most common of all cosmetic surgery operations. Take notes during each consultation specifically regarding the quantity and quality of before and after picture if you were showing. There should be what seems like an endless supply of before and after pictures of previous patient whose bodies look very similar to what yours look like. Look very carefully at the results to make sure there are no skin contour irregularities in any of the areas treated. As the providers to point out exactly what areas for treated and worry I guess we’re not treated them look carefully at transition zone between treated and I’m free today I guess to make sure they look absolutely natural. Do not buy into hype or marketing Termanology like Liposculpture. Liposuction has in fact changed very little over the last four decades. Plastic surgeons have the equipment they need to do the job correctly. What makes the difference is having skill and experience. Like I mentioned earlier the only two variables that matter are patient candidacy and the skill of the surgeon. There isn’t much you can do about your own candidacy but it is important that you learn if you are a good candidate or not. Continue having consultations until you feel very certain you found the best provider in your community. If you are left unsure and slow down and schedule more consultations. The results of this procedure are permanent and irreversible and you’ll be reminded of them every day for the rest of your life. Be more selective than you think you need to be when it comes to choosing Liposuction providers. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
