Downsizing Implants: two stage breast implant revision - is this the best route?

A one stage approach of implant exchange is reasonable for many patients. If there is loose skin after a year then decision to remove skin/lift can be made at that time. I wish you the best of luck. The only reason that would make sense to do this on two stages is if you needed a lift. What you are describing makes no sense at all.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, it is possible to remove larger implants and replace them immediately. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

You should be able to do the procedure in just one surgery and with internal tightening of the pocket. I would not suggest doing it in two.

Thank you for your question. There are some instances in breast revision surgery with implants where a two stage procedure is best; this, however, is not one of them. In the long run, there is absolutely no difference in skin retraction by doing your procedure as one stage or two stage. Going through two procedures increases the length of your recovery and you have a higher risk of complications such as bleeding, infection or anesthesia problems. Only one stage is necessary. Be sure that you are seeing an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon.

A 2 stage downsizing you describe makes absolutely no sense IMO. Once the smaller implants are placed at the first surgery, the skin will have the same chance to shrink as it would with the implants out.
