Hello. I am scheduled for a BBL on June 1. My tests came back today and everything was in normal range besides my 8.9 total protein result. Will this affect my surgery?
Answer: Pre surgical lab test Hello @nikkitay18, thank you for your question. Every surgeon has their own established preoperative tests and criteria for determining whether a patient is a suitable candidate for a particular procedure. It's crucial to discuss your lab results with your plastic surgeon, He or she will be able to evaluate your overall health and determine if your total protein level might affect your candidacy for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or if any additional tests or treatments are necessary before proceeding with the surgery. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS. American Society of Plastic Surgery Member (ASPS),International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science” Member (IFATS), American Society of Plastic Surgery Member (ASPS), Colombian Society of Plastic Surgery member (SCCP).

Answer: Lab results It is important to discuss your lab results with your board certified plastic surgeon. She/He is the one that will advise you if it is safe to proceed with the surgery as planned. Your surgeon has had the benefit of meeting with you and has discussed your medical history.

Answer: Total protein and BBL Thanks for your question, I will recommend you to check with your PCP and plastic surgeon about it before having the procedure done, the level of certain proteins in the blood can increase when the body is fighting an infection or some other inflammation, make sure to go to your surgery with optimal results to about any type of complications during and after your procedure. Plastic surgery is not an emergency surgery you can always reschedule and take care of your health first! Good luck!

Answer: Lab test I suggest you discuss your preoperative lab test results with your provider. Most people posting questions about preoperative lab tests are scheduling surgery out of the country or in distant locations. I recommend patients not to travel long distances for elective surgical procedures. People seem to not appreciate the importance of having in person consultations, the number of patients who have significant concerns after surgery, the number of people who end up needing revisions, or that complications actually happen. Typically the Doctor Who orders the test is responsible for reviewing the results with the patient. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
