Yes, salty food can cause water retention. You can have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. After liposuction there is a process of swelling that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery.  The later phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens. Salty foods can cause water retention and more swelling. Best is to keeo a low salt diet and follow your surgeons  instructions.

Swelling following liposuction can persist for 3-4 months or longer depending on the extent of the procedure. During this recovery phase, a patient may also be more reactive to salty foods. The swelling that results will resolve.
