Will me being super nervous cause surgeon to cancel my surgery? When I’m nervous my bp spikes up. Is there anything I can do?

As long as you don't have poorly controlled hypertension, you should be fine. If you are concerned, I suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeons as most of us have some recommendations which might help you keep your nerves under control.

Being nervous before surgery is normal feeling and everybody has it. However, there are people that become overwhelmed with nervousness that may cancel surgery in the last moment. In order to cope with it, you should discussed that particular issue with your surgeon and primary care physician; a group of medications called analytics may be used before and short time after surgery to help keep this situation under control. Hello. Great question. Your situation should not be a cause for your surgery to be cancelled. As long as your blood pressure at regular pace is normal. However, I will suggest discussing this with your surgeon prior to surgery. Every surgeon has their own pre op protocols.

It is not uncommon for otherwise healthy individuals to have an elevated blood pressure just prior to surgery. Typically an appropriate I.V. dose of medicine will control this type of transient hypertension and allow surgery to proceed uneventfully. If your blood pressure has otherwise been normal in the past this should not be an issue.  Best of Luck  Dr Harrell
