I do not want a full tummy tuck or any type of muscle reconstruction. I don't really care about the stretch marks (although it will be a plus if I can get rid of those also) I just want the bottom belly pooch gone. Liposuction, lasers, thinking about BBL also. Is there anything out there that doesn't require a lot of down time and actually works? Age 29 near Miami.

Answer: For Best Results for body shaping of the abdomen, Go With VASER HI DEF, ThermiRF, fat grafting, Body Jet and possible Tummy Tuck Based on your pictures, you appear to have skin laxity, which would make you a candidate for a tummy tuck which can be performed at the same time as a hi definition procedure. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will get rid of your mom pooch and give you a toned result. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a hi definition physique expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Addressing the "Pooch" Concerns about the appearance of the abdomen are very common among patients consulting with a plastic surgeon. Just like every patient is different…so too is every abdomen. Different problems require different solutions. Your board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS) is uniquely trained to identify the problems as well as the appropriate solution. Which procedure is best is dependent upon the source of the problem. Excess fat deposits underneath the skin can be addressed via liposuction. Frequently issues of excess skin as well as fat are at the heart of a patient's concerns. A third factor, which is often overlooked by most patients is abdominal wall muscle laxity (typically seen in post partum mommies). Despite the commonly held misconception, neither liposuction nor tummy tuck is intended as a weight loss tool nor is it a solution for stretch marks on the stomach. Candidates for tummy tuck should be already at or near their ideal weight for optimal results. It is recommended to women that are planning on becoming pregnant to postpone the procedure until they are finished having children. Based upon your photos, you would likely benefit from abdominoplasty as well as liposuction. Liposuction, alone, is likely to exacerbate the excess skin issue and will not address any muscle looseness which commonly plays a role in the pooch. Ultimately, patients can always opt for lesser interventions, they just need to adjust expecations accordingly. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
