Will Rhinoplasty be affected by lab goggles?

My rhinoplasty was December 16,2014 and I have avoided taking any science labs for the Spring semester due to the goggles resting on the nose, but I can not avoid them forever and will be wearing goggles in 2 weeks for an orgonic chem lab. Will the lab goggles affect or alter the shape of my nose?

If possible, patients are advised to avoid wearing glasses or goggles after rhinoplasty for 6 weeks.  This is really only an issue if work was performed on the bones near the top of the nose where the pad from your glasses (or in your case goggles) would rest.  If a rhinoplasty only involves tip work then there really isn't much of a need to avoid glasses for any prolonged time period.It's good when rhinoplasty patients are very cautious during the healing phase.  However, at this point you can treat your nose like normal.  If work was performed on the bones then that area should be healed in place and pretty firm by about 6 weeks, maybe slightly longer.  You definitely are in the clear at this point several months out from surgery.Think about this example:Someone falls off a bike and breaks his arm.  That person wears a cast for what, maybe a month or so?  Once the cast is removed the bones have set and healed in place, and the person can begin to start getting back into normal activity.  The nasal bones heal in a similar manner.

I would not think that wearing lab goggles 4 1/2 months after a rhinoplasty would affect the result, but it is always best to check with your surgeon since he or she has the most information about your particular surgery.

If bony work is done during rhinoplasty, the bones typically take 6-8 weeks to knit together.  During this time, I ask my patients to avoid glasses/ swim masks/ goggles or any other other pressure on the bridge of the nose.  Since you're out of that time frame, you're likely able to wear goggles without any undue effect.  Double-check with your surgeon, and good luck in organic chemistry!
