Is this normal after lip filler? (photos)

Question

I had lip fillers today. Immediately after they where pefect and symmetrical. After an hour they began to swell as expected but the left almost looks dropped. Is this normal. I showed my dr this photo and she assured me it is just swelling. I did bleed a little on this side during the procedure. Im using an icepack hoping it will help. Is it normal? Thanks

If you had some bleeding after the injection it is possible that you have a small haematoma.  This should settle with time.  Cold compress will definately help.
Lips do swell up sometimes and this generally resolves over a few days.

It is quite common to have swelling like you have right after lip augmentation. Give it a week, if you still have concerns, then return to your doctor for advice. Good luck

The lips are very soft tissues and can swell very easily and certainly after lip fillers.  If they looked good right after the fillers were placed then in all likelihood they will look as good when this swelling goes down.  The cold compresses you are applying will help a lot.  After a few days the swelling will have largely resolved and you can get a better idea of what you will look like.

It is not uncommon to have some swelling after filler in the lips, especially if there was some bleeding and you have a bruise.  It can take 2 weeks for the swelling to subside.  If your lips are uneven at that time, please return to your doctor for an adjustment.

Lip swelling does occur after filler injection.  This can take about a week or longer for it to settle in some individuals.

Thank you for your question.  Swelling as you are aware is completely normal after filler particularly to the lips.  This is most likely explained by the bleeding on that side during your injections.  That being said your lips are uneven at this point so I would wait a week and see what the results are.  If your lips are still uneven after a week this is less likely swelling and most likely uneven placement of the filler.  At that point please return to your physician for either additional volume or preferably hyaluronidase to break down and sculpt the filler on the left overfilled side.  Regards, Dr. Matthew Elias

It is normal for lips to swell after fillers. If a little bleeding occurred on one side and not the other then you might have a difference in size or if one side was more vigorously massaged. Give this a few days and then re-evaluate.

As you know lip swelling after filler injection is expected but the asymmetry demonstrated in the photos is not normal if the entire upper lip was injected at the same time. There is a possibility of a small hematoma if the lips were symmetric after the filler injection. Please follow closely with your doctor for proper post-injection care.

Thanks for the question. It is normal for the lips to swell after lip injections with fillers. As a matter a fact lips tend to swell the most out of most areas of filler injections. The use of icing before and after the treatments as well as use of Arnica before and after the treatment. The swelling tends to last about 5 days. You do have a noticeable asymmetry that could be due to the excess bleeding on that side or due to uneven placement of filler. You will know once the swelling subsides.Good luck!
