My lip dermal fillers only lasted a week - why?

I had half a ml temporary filler placed in my lips however my lips were back to their small size ( i took a photo to be sure) in a week instead of lasting 3-6 months. The strange thing is when i press the inside of my lips i can feel the filler still in there but just sitting there instead of volumising my lips...

Great Question. Typically, after a temporary hyaluronic acid filler is placed in the lips there is a significant amount of swelling that will last for 1-2 weeks. A lot of people will get used to the swelling and once it is resolved will feel they have lost the effect of the filler. However, the filler is still intact in the lip. You did have a small amount placed in the lip which will result in a small augmentation. If you desire a fuller look, I would recommend you go back to your injector or another board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss possibly adding more volume.

The filler did not disappear, the swelling after the injection did. The filler is still there and may not have been placed correctly. Also, ).5 ml of filler for upper and lower lip volume enhancement is generally to small to make a noticeable difference. I normally do 1.5-2 ml, especially on the first visit. If you limit the filler volume or do not choose your treating DOCTOR properly, your results will likely not be optimal. I suggest consulted an experienced dermatologist, facial or general plastic surgeon.

Hi, we perform many lip augmentations using a dermal filler and lip implants for a more permanent enhancement.  One half of a cc for both lips is quite a small amount of filler.  My guess would be that you just need a larger volume placed in both lips.  Be certain that the MD performing your lip enhancement understands the proper aesthetic volume proportion, between the upper and lower lip, to create naturally  attractive, pouty lips.
