6 months post lipo. What should I do about pain and uneven areas?

I have pain that feels like extreme bruising at times in area of liposuction ( abdomen, flanks and low back). 6 mos post lipo. What should I do about it? Will cool sculpture take care of this and is it also speedy. Paid 8k and it don't look worth my pain and suffering. I had a one follow up appt. I called to have another appt on my own four months out because of pain and hard areas. Lumpy areas. Clearly a fat pocket that I can pinch on my left side. Been told I'm doing fine and issues are normal.

Sorry that you are still experiencing pain and discomfort. Cool sculpting won't solve the pain issue. Usually the pain is nerve-related and caused by the disruption of the nerves to the skin. This usually resolves within a year. Sometimes massage will help "desensitize" those areas while it's still healing. Pain could be associated with the technology used to remove the fat, also can be caused by areas of residual inflammation or fat necrosis. Cool sculpting may take care of a large area that maybe wasn't treated as much to get more of an even contour. In any event, the amount of followups are inadequate. I recommend seeing your surgeon right away to address these concerns.

I recommend following up with your Doctor to address the pain and your concerns. I recommend Vanquish to all my post-liposuction patients.  After liposuction, I also recommend exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. We start treatments 3-4 weeks after liposuction.  See an expert. Dear minime03,While there is always a chance for contour irregularities with liposuction, someone who takes their time and uses the appropriate sized cannulas should give you a superb result. I have all my patients wear compression garments and I use multiple sized cannulas to feather out the result.I would have to examine you but it appears that you have contour irregularity after liposuction.  This happens often when areas the undergo liposuction are not feathered appropriately.
The good news is that it can be fixed and I have done so with good results before. The revision can often be done under local as well.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS

I would not recommend coolsculpting or more  surgery at this time.
 Pain at this stage may represent a neuroma and these often respond to
massage and desensitization. The contour irregularities may be improved 
but I would suggest to wait at least a year from surgery. Your surgeon can 
re evaluate you and help you through the process. Best wishes.

Photos would have been quite helpful in addition to providing more information about your liposuction such as the technique used. Regardless, your experiences regarding pain is extremely unusual and unfortunate as was having truly had only 1 postoperative followup. You should return to your doctor and discuss both your symptoms and dissatisfaction with the outcome. You should not be having pain 6 months after surgery. Coolsculpting will not help any of the problems you are having. I suggest you discuss these issues with your surgeon and if that doesn't help , I would get another opinion. Dr Crabtree

Normally, pain, swelling, firm areas, are resolved before 6 months  after liposuction. Normally, recovery is done closer to 6 weeks. with minimal swelling out to 3-4 months. Cool Sculpt can help with areas you feel have remaining fat, but it won't help with painful areas. If you had vaser or other energy modalities, there could be some tissue injury that is lingering. Infection, hardening of fat, chronic fluid collection are also rare but possible. You need to discuss with your plastic surgeon, and possibly get an opinion from another plastic surgeon. Hopefully you can get this solved.

pain six months after liposuction is not normal. Pain six months after liposuction is not normal.I can't tell you why you're having this pain.I don't think I've ever had a patient complaint of pain after three months.In regards to your results it's hard to give an assessment without pictures.My patient satisfaction requires a combination of patients being a good candidate and the procedure performed correctly. Cool sculpting will neither correct your uneven results nor will it help with your pain.  If your provider is not a board-certified plastic surgeon you may want to get a second opinion from someone who is. Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
