I have a high forehead and I am interested in forehead reduction but I also have unsymmetrical hairline. I have slight recession in temples. Is to possible to lower a hairline with surgery and even out / straighten the hairline? If not then is it possible to get a hair transplant to fill in the temples after having the surgery? If so is it better to first get a transplant and then do a hairline lowering surgery or start with the lowering surgery first and then do the hair transplant?
Answer: Hair Transplant After Hairline Lowering A hair transplant is possible after a forehead reduction surgery. I commonly use these two procedures to achieve specific goals. Some patients opt for hair transplants as a planned second stage procedure to help camouflage the scar or customize the hairline. I would not recommend hair transplantation as the first procedure. Hair transplantation AFTER forehead reduction surgery allows patients to hide the scar even further and customize the hairline as desired.I would recommend speaking with a forehead reduction expert to discuss all of your questions and concerns. All the best,

Answer: It is possible to have a hair transplant after a forehead reduction surgery. It is possible to have a hair transplant after a forehead reduction surgery. It would be in your interest to have a consultation with a doctor and understand your risks and benefits of each surgery. It would not be fair to suggest one or the other option without an examination or understanding your specific goals. There are issues of scarring, shock hair loss, hairline shape, and many other factors that must be understood. First, you need to meet with a doctor so you can explain your goals and expectations. Afterwards, you'll have a better idea as to which procedure will best meet your goals and how much your procedure may cost.

Answer: Hair Transplant vs. Forehead Reduction I would recommend a forehead reduction first unless you do not want to the downtime of surgery. If you go to someone who is experienced in forehead reduction, they should be able to design the incision and closure so that the sides of your hairline is brought forward and rounded. As the scar matures over the first 3-6 months after forehead reduction, hair starts to grow through the incision to camouflage it. I wouldn't consider hair transplants until at least 6 months after forehead reduction. Of course, this is the best advice I can give without seeing photos of your hairline itself. A video consult would at least be needed with your surgeon to determine what the best treatment plan for you would be. Best of luck to you! Sarah Saxon, MD

Answer: Hair transplants If you’re going to do both a forehead had as well as hair transplant It makes the most sense to do a hair transplant and have the forehead hairline lowered at the same time. This way you get it all done in one surgery and in many ways forehead reduction surgery is a better option because it is not limited by distance and it can address receded corners
