Follow up: What is the difference between forehead reduction, hairline lowering, hair transplant?

I just posted another question asking about the risks of a forehead reduction surgery. The first response I got confused me and I can’t figure out how to edit my original question. I thought forehead reduction and hairline lowering were the same thing?

A hairline lowering procedure could either be a forehead reduction surgery (also known as hairline lowering surgery, scalp advancement, etc), or lowering your hairline with a hair transplant procedure. A forehead reduction surgery involves placing a camouflaged incision along the hairline and used to advance the hair bearing scalp and shorten the forehead in one surgical procedure. This is a common method that patients choose, as it is quicker and only requires one procedure. Hairline lowering with hair transplant does not require any linear incisions along the hairline, but does not usually attain the same density as a hairline advancement procedure with only one hair transplant session. In most cases, patients will opt for a second hair transplant session about one year after the first session in order to achieve even greater density in the transplanted zone. Once this second session is complete, patients have usually achieved adequate density. I would recommend speaking with a forehead reduction specialist to discuss your goals and anatomy to determine which procedure(s) are right for you.

Hello,
It is hard to find doctors for forehead lowering since they need to be experts in 2 areas.  First of all, doctors need to be experts in facial plastic surgery or plastic surgery to lift up the scalp area and advanced along the forehead.  The galea is released during this.  A key component is hiding the scar along the border of the scalp.
The second component is being an expert in hair transplantation.  The hairline is lowered and the scar is camouflaged through hair transplants. 
Look for a surgeon specializing both plastic surgery of the face and who does hair transplants.

Forehead reduction and hairline lowering are basically the same thing but it can be confusing since there are two surgical methods to "lower your hairline" or "reduce your forehead".Hair transplant, where you take one individual hair at a time to rebuild a new hairline, is one method.An incision made on your hairline  to advance the entire scalp forward, is the other method. This method is often referred as "forehead reduction". Hair transplant can round out your hairline and reshape the hairline with greater flexibility.

The terminology can be confusing. The hairline can be lowered and  the forehead reduced using hair transplants or the forehead reduction procedure which is typically done by making an incision at the existing hairline which is then moved down on the forehead.This incision is hidden by follicles that produce hair which will grow through and in front of the new hairline.

Hairline lowering for women, there are two ways to accomplish this, the first being a hairline lowering or often called a hairline advancement surgery where the hairline is advanced forward with an incision at the hairline and the scalp is lifted off of the head and moved forward, putting it back in a lower position.It is often limited in the distance you can move the hairline, often about 1 inch or so.if there is more movement required, a hair transplant lowering procedure works better. In some women, there is loss of the corner hairline and/or the temple peaks and when this happens, only a hair transplant lowering procedure can address these corners and the temple peaks, see below.
