I tell my patients that they can dye your hair right up to a week before surgery. I just don't want there to be any scalp staining or dye will run out of the hair when we wash it. After surgery there is a two week dying ban while the actual incisions heal. For the next two months it's not a firm ban, but more of a strong caution. The scalp is still healing, and any pulling or tugging on it can affect that process. It will also be quite numb, so you won't be able to tell how gentle the person dying your hair is being. So, ideally, I ask patients to wait that full two months. These are the recommendations I give to my patients, but make sure to ask your surgeon their specific recommendations. They may use different techniques and require different post operative care. -Dr. Rolfes
