Hello, I had Botox two days ago on my forehead, between my brows, and at the corner of my eyes. The first day, I had virtually no swelling. When I woke up yesterday, I was swollen at all injection sites. Today, it doesn’t look any better. Should I be worried? I got it done Friday and since it’s the weekend, my doctor office is closed.
Answer
Hello and thank you for your question. Swelling after Botox is only normal for about 15 min to a couple hours after the injections. This particular swelling may be due to what product they used to reconstitute their Botox. It seems that water may have been used instead of normal saline. If this is the case, there is no harm done, it will just take longer for the fluid to be absorbed by your body. Regardless, you should have your injector take a look as soon as possible.

Thank you for your question and I appreciate your concern. Sudden swelling two days after Botox injections is not common. While I don’t think it is an urgent situation, I would follow up with your provider once the office is open. You may need an in-person assessment to ensure the side effects are harmless. In most cases, swelling will get better on its own.

It is unusual to have swelling more than 24 hours after a Botox treatment. While the side effect is not serious and is likely to subside on its own, I would recommend scheduling a follow-up with your injector to assess the swelling in person. Always seek Botox treatments from a board-certified dermatologist who is also an expert Botox injector to minimize the odds of side effects after treatment.

I appreciate your concern. It is not common to have swelling this long after Botox injections. I would recommend scheduling a follow-up with your injector for a full assessment. However, I think you will be fine to wait through the weekend and give the office a call first thing Monday morning. You may even find the swelling subsides by then. Best wishes for a positive recovery and excellent results!

Hello! I am sorry to hear about your swelling. Swelling should happen pretty quickly after your injection and for a few hours after. Judging by your photo, you should not have this significant of swelling two days after. I would follow up with your certified injector to see how many units were injected as well as what was used to reconstitute the Botox. Good luck!!

Swelling of the injection sites is not typical two days after injection. I recommend contacting your injector for an evaluation.

I wouldn’t be worried unless you start having symptoms other than the swelling like pain, itching, redness, or a change in your breathing. I’d check back in with your doctor tomorrow though.

Thank you for your question, I would recommend following up with your provider as soon as possible. Although some people tend to swell or bruise more easily than others it is not typical to have prominent swelling at injection sites 2 days later. If you experience any other symptoms such as redness, warmth or if your swelling worsens seek medical attention. Best, Scott Grevey, M.D.
