Thank you for your question. I recommend you increase your hemoglobin level first before undergoing any plastic surgery procedure. Routine blood loss during surgery in a patient with anemia can result in admission to the hospital for blood transfusion which should not happen after elective cosmetic procedure. Once your blood count is within normal range, then you can undergo plastic surgery! Good luck!
Blood loss after a BBL or tummy tuck can be significant. For this reason, it is advisable that a patient get labs drawn prior to these procedures to ensure that parameters, including hemoglobin levels, are in an acceptable range. If the patient is anemic, a surgical procedure of this magnitude may not be safe. In such instances, the most prudent course of action may be to determine the cause of the anemia and treat it prior to proceeding with an elective surgery.
BBL and Tummy Tuck are major procedures and should be done only when your hemoglobin levels are 12.5 or higher . Best ,
you should not have anemia before undergoing these procedures. discuss this with your primary care physician so they can help determine what type of anemia you have and ways to address it.
