Is This Mondors Cord? What can I do about it? (photos)

In my experience, it is not uncommon for my patients to begin to notice their Mondor chords at three weeks after surgery, which is when you are noticing yours. These are just irritated veins that need time to heal. At six weeks, they are gone for most of my patients. I've never seen it last much longer than that. Hello,This could be mondor's cords which are normal and will resolve on their own. Sometimes if they are sore, your Surgeon will recommend heat and massage but they will likely take a few weeks to resolve.All the best

It looks like it.  I find that these are more common in slimmer patients.  You can massage them as well if they are not tender.  They will go away with just time either way.  Best of luck.

It appears from your pictures that you do indeed have so-called Mondor's cords.  What those are essentially is thromboses, or clotted, superficial veins under the breasts.  If you look at the skin of your chest, breasts, and abdomen, you will see a continuous network of small veins running over the entire torso.  When one of these veins gets cut, such as with an incision under the breast for breast augmentation, or stretched and compressed, such as with the placement of a full sized breast implant, the blood flow in that vein gets blocked, and it becomes clotted.  When that happens it can get inflamed and firm, and it looks and feels like a cord, hence the name.  The term "Mondor's" comes from the condition Mondor's disease, named for the doctor that identified it, and it classically was clotting of veins in over-engorged breasts of nursing mothers during breastfeeding.  Again, the same thing happens - blood flow gets blocked, and the vein clots.  Fortunately, the condition is pretty benign, except it can be tender and limit your motion for awhile.  These aren't the kind of deep veins that get clots that break off and go to your lungs, so you don't have to be worried about that.  Usually, over a couple of weeks or so, these soften and get better on their own.  I usually have my patients use a low level heating pad and take some Motrin to help with the pain and inflammation too.  It's best to avoid any direct trauma to the area, like massage, or any activities that may stress the tissues, like exercise or running, until this is resolved.  Check all of these recommendations with your own surgeon, but this is how I manage this issue in my own patients.
