Complications after rhinoplasty, significant nasal muscle resistance, could it be dislodged grafts?

Question

I had a rhinoplasty in 2019 and a hard nose hit in 2020. Since then, it feels like there are rods along the sides of my nose where the muscles are, I can't move my nasal muscles without experiencing significant resistance, and there is a popping noise when I blink or scrunch my nose around the eye. I have also noticed that when I push my nose from the sides, the blocked feeling completely resolves for 5-15 seconds. Could cartilage grafts become dislodged and interfere with muscle? Thanks

Without proper, in person examination, it is impossible to say what is going on. It would be in your best interest to have a consultation with your surgeon or another  board certified plastic surgeon with good reputation in rhinoplasty, for clinical evaluation and to discuss the options of treatment. There are many different things that could be occurring including problems  with cartilage grafts or refractured nasal bones. Best to start by seeing your surgeon

Good Morning! Thanks for the questions. If you've had a nasal injury since your surgery, there could absolutely be movement of cartilage or bone that causes obstruction. A clicking or popping often indicates this. As for the muscles, there could be interference though their role is not as substantial compared with solid structure from cartilage. I would revisit with your surgeon if you're comfortable and have a thorough examination. Otherwise, seek consultation with a Facial Plastic Surgeon who performs revision rhinoplasty. If there is damage, a revision may be merited. Hope this helps!

You report a "hard nose hit" in 2020, one year after your rhinoplasty, after which time your symptoms have developed. After rhinoplasty, nasal bones heal by fibrous union rather than by ossification and are not as strong as bony union. It is indeed possible that you sustained a refracture. You mention "a blocked feeling", suggesting that you suffer from nasal airway obstruction.
Visit a board certified plastic surgeon or otolaryngologist for evaluation and discussion.
