Subcision or scar revision for tethered vertical abdominal scar post tummy tuck? (Photos)

Question

I had a tummy tuck 2 years ago that was complicated by a bleed, intrabdominal infection, and prolonged swelling. I have a vertical scar where my belly button used to be; it’s tethered and looks like a tight seam. I would like to have this fixed. Is subcision the best route to take or do i need a scar revision?

Thank you for your question and photos. Based on these photos only without the benefit of a physical examination, I see several issues. You have excess fat over the abdomen, large pubic mound, lower vertical scar separation and skin stuck to the muscle fascia. Neither subcision alone or simple scar revision will give you the result you are hoping for. If you were my patient, I would suggest liposuction such as VASER to break up scar tissue of the abdomen and pubic area, undermining the lower abdominal flap all the way up to the belly button, and removing the lower abdominal excess skin. This will not remove the lower abdominal vertical scar completely, but will remove the thinned out scarred tissue. Will give you a smoother contour.
