Hello, I am a 30 year old female. I work out daily and am physically fit however even at my lowest weight (170cm, 62kg) (currently 70kg) i have always had stubborn belly fat. I had a consultation with a surgeon today who suggested vaser lipo on my lower abdo and flanks however didnt feel like i needed it on my upper abdomen. I want a flat stomach so i can finally be confident. Can this be achieved without lipo on my upper abdomen too? Photos attached. Thank you

Answer: High definition or not? You have to consider what your goals are? If you are going to undergo cosmetic surgery why not get all of your concern areas done with VASER liposuction that include your upper, middle, lower abdomen, your waistline to improve your curves, and your love handles that are also prominent. You may want to roudn out your hips as well. Then you will have a sculpted body that is fabulous. Please consider a virtual consultation with a high definition body contouring specialist.

Answer: The importance of having multiple consultations Delivering consistent quality Liposuction results is much more difficult than most people believe. This is true for both patients and plastic surgeons. The variation in outcome on these procedures based purely on who does the procedure varies immensely. If done by someone who lacks skills and experience patients can be left permanently disfigured Liposuction is permanent and irreversible. To find the most talented and experience provider I recommend patients have multiple in person consultations. During the consultation ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures of abdominal or torso liposuction. An experience provider should have no difficulty showing you 50 or more sets up before and after pictures. Highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or even thousands of abdominal Liposuction before and after pictures. If shown just a handful of example pictures then you were only seeing the very best results of that providers entire career. That does not give you any idea of what average results look like. Ask to provide her to show some other best results, average results and results that didn’t turn out as well as they had hoped and talk about the differences. We’re looking at before and after pictures make sure you’re seeing patients from all angles including from the back. take your time when looking at these pictures. Take lots of time and look for contour irregularities or areas of technical error that may show streaks, lumps, cobblestone appearance or an unnatural fat distribution or appearance. look carefully and ask if needed where the transition zone is between treated and on treated areas. review these pictures critically and try to make a mental note on who gets the best results. People have a view that this is “just getting a little Liposuction”. In reality you’re going to live with the results for the rest of your life and when done poorly the results leave people disfigured. Secondly I recommend reading all the reviews on various physician review websites. Pay particular attention to reading negative reviews. Avoid providers with any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. I’ve been a board-certified plastic surgeon for 23 years. The last 10 years of practice have been devoted exclusively to doing only Liposuction and fat transfer procedures. I’ve done over 8000 Liposuction procedurs. Personally I prefer to do these with patients awake using local anesthesia with my sedation. there’s a learning curve for keeping patients comfortable during Liposuction procedures without the use of general anesthesia. if a provider has learned how to do awake Liposuction to the point of patient not having significant pain during the procedure then in my opinion it’s a better way to go because it makes contouring easier with better results, faster recovery, less bruising and serves as a cost savings. must plastic surgeons will probably recommend general anesthesia and that’s fine as long as they’re good at what they do. Personally I view the torso as a single anatomic unit and either treat the entire torso I don’t treated at all. I do this to maintain an even natural thin fat distribution on the entire torso. Spot treating the torso leaves people looking partially treated. A full torso technically includes upper abdomen, lower abdomen, pubic area if needed, love handles, waist, fall back and under arms all the way to the side of the breast. I call it a “full torso” and it represents 70% of the cases I do. This is my biggest tip off that you were not in the hands of someone who should be doing your liposuction. I would never consider doing part of the abdomen. The result will look like you had liposuction on the lower abdomen only. Someone who gives that recommendation may be very competent and very good at other procedures but has certainly not mastered Liposuction. I used to think I was good at Liposuction earlier in my career as well. I look back now and realize that to get consistent quality results with this procedure is much more difficult than I initially thought. It wasn’t until I started exclusively specializing in doing only Liposuction and fat transfer procedures my results became consistent quality results. Look for providers who seem to enjoy doing Liposuction or perhaps work at a Liposuction specialty clinic though I personally would avoid a big national chain called S…..B…….(sooonooobellooo) Continue having consultations until you feel very comfortable you have found someone who is truly exceptional. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom MD
