What can I do to minimize the appearance of the line above my upper lip?

Last year I began to notice a line appear above my lip which I believe could be from side sleeping. I saw a cosmetic nurse who suggested lip filler to pump up the lips so the line wouldn’t appear. It didn’t seem to help much with the appearance of the line which I believe is becoming more prominent. What should I be looking at getting done to treat this area?

I would recommend a filler directly to the line to try and even it with the surrounding area. It shouldn’t require a whole syringe so depending on the injectors policy, you could use the remaining syringe somewhere else in the face/lips. Hope this helps!

Hello! Great question, you could start with some filler above the lip area to slightly decrease the appearance of the line. You may also be able to get an evaluation and see if botox could help in a more preventative way. If the muscles you use when drinking from a straw or making a kissing face if the line sits in a a prominent area where the fold appears you may be a good candidate. Botox will not fix the line, but it may decrease the chances of it worsening. Please consult with a board certified injector!

Thank you for your question.We call this type of lines a “sleep lines”. This line could be augmented by plumping up lips. I would advise to fill it up with a bit of thin hyaluronic acid filler or insert a smooth PDO thread to induce a collagen production to support and smooth out this line. All the best, Dr.Liliya
