Is it OK to wax before surgery?

This sounds really awkward and i am embarss to tell this to my surgeon however its ok to wax before your surgery?

Lots of physicians have different opinions concerning this. Some surgeons ask that you avoid waxing or shaving the operative area for fear of irritating the skin or potentially making the incision more susceptible to an infection. My advice is to check with your plastic surgeon before surgery.

I don't see any problem with this at all. Nevertheless, you should feel comfortable discussing with your surgeon anything it might influence the operation.

I never have any particular problem with patients waxing their face before surgery. I do feel that if done within 72 hours of the surgery it can cause a little bit more of a reaction to the skin but only be a problem if I am performing some kind of a resurfacing procedure. Otherwise should not be an issue. I hope this helps. Xxx

It is okay to wax a week before elective cosmetic surgery. It  is best to check with her operative surgeon.

There is no reason not to wax before surgery, but if the area to be waxed is within a few inched of your surgical site (pubic hair/tummy tuck) you might want to check with your surgeon first.  There are two reasons for this:1) Waxing can cause skin irritation which should be avoided at surgical sites;2) Hairlines are often important landmarks for surgical planning.
