3 months post a Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty, a lot of dry mucous and small blood spotting in nose.

Question

I had my rhinoplasty procedure around near 3 months ago, went extremely well, can now breathe perfectly, however alive been having excessive days of dry mucous developing every morning and the odd blood deep inside. The blood isn't leaking out i just notice it when I'm doing my saline rinse which although my surgeon suggested I don't really need to use anymore i still use to help clean out the mucous. Just curious is it normal to have so much mucous at this stage and also the blood?

3 months after surgery, its certainly not unheard of to still have some swelling, excess mucous production and the odd spot of dry blood making its way out.  It all depends on how extensive your procedure was, particularly intranasally.  Rest assured, it will continue to improve with time.  Congratulations on your procedure! Best of luck with the rest of the healing process.

Healing following any nose operation can take 6 to 12 months. Best to discuss this with your surgeon in more detail.

Even though your nose is healed after nasal surgery, and your breathing is improved, many patients complain of nasal dryness for several months after surgery. In turn, dryness of the mucous membranes can result in mild dried blood visible when you clean your nose. Discuss this with your doctor but a good choice is often bacitracin ointment to the area to moisten and humidify the nose. Good luck!
