Rhinoplasty soon - is it necessary to tape 24/7 after the first week?

This is an excellent question. Taping after rhinoplasty is very helpful in limiting excess swelling, especially when you are lying down. Once the cast is removed after the first week, taping at night is most beneficial. If you can continue taping 24/7 for a few more days after the cast is off, it will be even more effective. In the long run, taping and minimizing swelling will help you heal better and more quickly.

I understand that some surgeons recommend postoperative taping vehemently. My rhinoplasty teacher never recommended post surgical taping, and for 25 years neither have we. I hope this helps. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph.

It is standard to place tape and sometimes a protective guard over the nose immediately after a rhinoplasty to help to minimize swelling, shape the tissues, and to protect the tissues and the bones in the early stages of healing. These tapes and guard are typically left on for the first week to allow the tissues to heal and then are removed in the office. It is usually not necessary to tape after one week although some surgeons may have a different protocol. Best wishes.

Hi, this is Dr. Olgun, i don't suggest taping to my patient after 2nd week pass. Tapes usually does allergy and also wrong taping can cause issues in the process of healing. My suggestion is to leave it alone by itself.

Taping after rhinoplasty surgery supports the nose and limits the swelling. Every surgeon has different approaches for taping. Generally after cast removal tapes are applied for couple of days for 7/24 after that taping continues for nights

Most rhinoplasty patient will need continued application of tape (pressure) to control swelling and speed up overall healing time. We usually recommend using tape over night for a period of 2-3 months, in some patients even longer. Every time patient removes the tape in the morning there is significant difference in shape and swelling from previous night! I will suggest you to continue with taping as long as tolerated but only overnight. Good luck.

As far as I can understand from your questioni if your doctor deems it necessary, he will tape it, each doctor's procedure is different, but taping for 1 month can be a long time.
