Hello doctors, I have tattoos on my rib cage and I'm hoping to get an tummy tuck someday. I am just wondering, would the skin from my rib cage extend to my abdominal area? I'm thinking if the skin from there would be stretched when the tummy tuck is done. I'm planning a full abdominoplasty. thank you :)

Answer: Moving skin around tatoos More than likely, the skin over your ribs will not be moved. During your consultation, please ask the surgeon what areas are treated.

Answer: Tattoo and tummy tuck Tattoos will sometime interfere with or be affected by surgery. With a tummy tuck, the skin is stretched most centrally and the least laterally near the hips. So, if your tattoo is on your side, it should be minimally affected. However, your surgeon should be able to give you a better idea how your tattoo will change with your surgery. This is definitely an issue that needs to be discussed prior to surgery. If you are unwilling to accept your tattoo changing or part of it being removed, you should reconsider the procedure. When a part of a tattoo is removed with surgery, you can always have that part tattooed again. But make sure you have a good picture of it to show you tattoo artist following the surgery. Hope this helps!
