It's good that you're thinking about your varicose veins because soon after your TT they will potentially be fuller. You'll need to be very intentional about them postoperatively with managing them. I'd recommend limited salt intake and fluid restriction to some degree, as I do with all TT's but in your case hose support or Spanx garments will be an effective measure in their postop management. They shouldn't be ignored, there will be retained fluid postop and your lower body in general could be dealing with the extra fluid, if you're expecting it then it will not be a big deal. Consult with your board certified plastic surgeon in this regard.
Good morning!Yes it is safe to have an abdominoplasty with varicose veins- but some additional studies may or may not be needed to determine the nature of your varicose veins. Varicosities can be a symptom of a blocked deep venous system in your legs that can be an issue with surgery. I would check with your PS to see if any additionla studies are appropriate depending upon the nature of your varicosities.I hope this helps
Superficial varicose veins do place you at a slightly increase risk for developing deep vein clots but a proper assessment and exam needs to be done. Best to you
Thank you for your question. The short answer is that varicose veins should not increase your risks with a tummy tuck. I think what you are thinking about are blood clots (DVTs). Varicose veins are usually associated with the superficial vein system. Blood clots / DVTs generally do not occur in your superficial system. Rather, blood clots and DVTs can occur in your deep venous system. In summary, it should be safe to proceed with a tummy tuck with a your history of varicose veins. I've attached a video reviewing the most common risks associated with tummy tuck surgery. I hope it is helpful. Please see a board certified plastic surgeon for a formal consultation to learn more about your options. Best wishes,Dr. BasuHouston, TX
It could be safe, there are many other health factors to consider. Your surgeon should do a complete evaluation and if needed referal to any other specialist that could be needed. In plastic surgery always safety comes first.
Yes, a tight compression garment can cause poor healing and bruising. It should be comfortable, not painful. I do not see signs of necrosis but there is redness and irritation. Ask your surgeon if you can switch to a second stage garment such as a Spanx. Explain your concern and...
Both Vac Therapy and wet - to-dry dressings work well. The wet-to-dry dressings are more mobile and do not require you to carry around any external devices. You should do well, but time to healing is different with all patients.I know this is a tough time for you, but it will improve.
Your surgeon needs to examine you and give you specific answers on your healing. But the shooting pain in your thigh suggests that the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve is irritated - possible by swelling or by a suture. In severe cases, this may need surgery to search for the irritating...
