It's well known that a significant percentage of transferred fat does not graft properly and is subsequently absorbed by the body. As a result, surgeons may choose to over-correct at the time of surgery. Typically, the process of fat loss takes several weeks and, therefore, final results are not apparent until 3 months or so following the procedure. Soreness should diminish quite steadily over the first week and be minimal thereafter with no need for prescription pain medication.
Patients should look substantially over treated initially after the procedure.Much of this is from swelling and some is from excessive amounts of fat grafted to compensate for fat loss overtime.much of the swelling and some fat absorption will have happened by six weeks. Results are starting to look closer to final by three months.By six months results are very close to final.Liposuction results should be final by six months but the areas treated with fat transfer may still shrink just a little bit for as long as a year.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
