Follow up question: my left side butt projects more than the right; but my right side hip projects more than left. can I have lipo to reduce the projection, just the top half, for a more natural look; not shelf. can this happen without dimpling, flattening the top, but keeping roundness. Any advice on cost for this area only. has anyone done reduction where I can see outcome? 5'2" 126lbs

Yes liposuction can be used to corrected these asymmetries and in the proper hands should not yield contour irregularities such as dimpling or excessive flattening.  Find a good plastic surgeon in your area that can show you some before and afters and go in for an exam.  Best wishes and take care.

Thank you for your question.  Your photos suggest that your asymmetry may be due to a difference in the position of your pelvis and hip bones.  This can happen in patients with a history of scoliosis.  This kind of asymmetry cannot be completely corrected with liposuction.  Asymmetric fat deposits can be treated with liposuction successfully.  I would recommend a consultation to examine you in order to determine how much improvement liposuction may afford. Based on your pictures, you are a good candidate for liposuction, to improve your reduce and improve your buttocks, and I think you'll get very good results.

In general, you need to be physically healthy and at a stable weight, have realistic expectations, be a non-smoker and your BMI needs to be 30 or less.

I recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know.

Secondary liposuction to correct asymmetries is feasible and occasionally may be performed under local anesthesia. I prefer ultrasonic (VASER) liposuction to emulsify the fat in between scar tissue in secondary cases. You would need to have a consultation for precise recommendations.

Everyone has some asymmetry. This is often due to the differences in the underlying bony and soft tissue anatomy. They will never be perfectely equal but inm any cases they can be improved. Best to be seen in person.  Reduction and augmentation technqiues can be employed.

Yes, you can remove excessive or unwanted fat by liposuction and could fill out the hip that is flatter as well. The area you are concerned about would be 'mapped out' and conservatively suctioned to your desire. The risks will include persistent asymmetry and contour irregularities. If you have waited at least 6 months from your surgery there is minimal chance of significant changes in your appearance and you could proceed at that time with the correction.  You could wait up to 8-10 months to be sure. Then you would be less likely to over correct the asymmetry. Best of luck  Dr Harrell
