can this surgery be done under local anesthesia. Interested in minora trim and wondering if insurance would consider cover fee. Pls advise how much surgery cost out of pocket (northern VA)

I do labiaplasty under local anesthesia all the time. The only time I do it under general anesthesia is if they are having a general anesthesia procedure (like a tummy tuck) at the same time. It is very well tolerated. As far as insurance, you would have to check with your insurance company to ask if it is covered. What I have found is that it is not commonly a covered procedure, but some policies do allow it.

Thank you for your question Your surgery is not as simple as you think. You have issues with not only the lower pair of labia ( that inserts into the clitoris) but also have excess prepuce (upper portion of the labia which forms the hood )which if not addressed properly will give you results you will probably not be happy with. This can be done under local but most surgeons would prefer to do this close to two hours procedure under some form of anesthesia. Insurance companies will not cover the fee any competent surgeon will charge for these procedures See the video below to become more informed

It is possible to have labiaplasty performed under local, however it would depend on the opinion of your surgeon. Labiaplasty is typically considered an aesthetic procedure therefore it may not be covered under insurance. However, insurance may cover it if your labia minora is causing you discomfort and irritation. Please discuss this with your surgeon.

Yes, your labia minora reduction certainly can be done under local anesthesia, whether it be a trim or wedge technique.
  I doubt that insurance would cover the procedure as it appears to be a cosmetic reshaping of your labia minora. I have never had an insurance cover this procedure over the past ten years.
  Please visit with a surgeon, either a plastic surgeon or a urogynecologist in you area who can give you a physical exam and discuss your best options.

Yes, labiaplasty can be done under local anesthesia in the office quite comfortably. Insurance coverage depends on your insurance plan, as with everything, but in my experience it's rare and only for severely hypertrophied labia that cause functional issues.

Based on the pictures that you provided, you appear to have enlarged and elongated inner lips (labia minora). I would recommend a Labiaplasty procedure in order to reduce the length and the width of your labia minora which will help achieve the look you desire. It will also make wearing tight clothes more comfortable.
This procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and is usually not covered by insurance.
I suggest that you seek an in person consultation with a Board-Certified plastic surgeon specializing in Labiaplasty to further discuss your options, specific techniques, concerns and expectations.

Insurance companies won't pay for labiaplasty unless the reason is cancer. Even then, they will only pay for the side with cancer. If you want this procedure, seek out an expert in labiaplasty. The hood is part of the area that needs treatment - it's obvious from the photo. Local anesthesia is an option for all. Start with a virtual consult.

Thank you for sharing your question.  Yes, your labiaplasty can be done under local anesthesia and a trim of the tissues including the lateral prepuce and clitoral frenulum should afford you a very nice result.  It will be highly unlikely to be covered by insurance, however.

Yes a labiaplasty can be done under local. We use Pronox which is like laughing gas to make you comfortable and locally inject it to numb up the area. Very common to do under local or with some anesthesia for some patients who request it. Prices vary so call and ask the plastic surgeon.. depends on where you are.

I have had insurance cover once in a while. It is rare but we did have an insurance cover for a patient who had multiple UTIs .
