Labiaplasty and breast augmentation revision - how long should I wait between the two procedures? Which order would be best?

Hi, I’ve had Labiaplasty and breast argumentation by two different surgeons and have to have both corrected due to issues. I want to know if it’s better to have them a day or two apart, or two weeks? I don’t want to space them further apart since there’s a 6 and 4 weeks recovery time and I can’t take 10 weeks off work (only 6). Also, which should I have first? Breast is under general anesthesia, labiaplasty under local. So which to have first? And how long between (up to 2w ) ? Thank you

Thanks for your question and sorry to hear you need both revised. There is no reason to not have them both done under one anesthesia and this way you won’t incur the discomfort of the labiaplasty under local. I perform this combination quite often. I often do these procedures at the same time as I am a plastic surgeon. You don't need to wait if done under local anesthesia. However, I do not do any revisions until the patient is at least five months after the labiaplasty. My concern for you is to make sure that your labia revision is done well as 40% of the surgeries I do are revisions of labiaplasties done by other doctors. Be careful that significant tissue is not removed on your revision, since that is often helpful when I do a revision. There are many techniques used depending on your deformity. I published the first and most extensive paper on labia reconstruction in the prestigious journal "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery" about ten years ago. You may need various reconstructive techniques to give you a good appearance.

You only get one good chance to reconstruct you, so be patient and ask a lot of questions.

Thank you for the question Do the local first so you won’t be uncomfortable for the second under general Time is insignificant but you should be comfortable a week after the labiaplasty so I suggest you do the breast a week after the labiaplasty

HI,

I don't think that it makes too much difference as to the timing of the 2 procedures. If you were having
both procedures under general anesthesia, it is generally recommended that you wait 6 weeks apart. Since the revision labiaplasty will be done under local anesthesia, the timing is not such of great importance. 
  It is important , however, that you receive antibiotics for your breast augmentation revision at any point in your surgery as the BAM will involve placing a foreign body in you and you do not want to risk contamination from the labial surgery.

Many surgeons would perform the breast revision and the labiaplasty at the same time. But since there are 2 separate surgeons. Which one you have first depends on what your surgeons recommend. Discuss your concerns with both surgeons. I am certain they will suggest the desired order that they consider to be the best to proceed.

I would recommend to wait 2-3 weeks between the procedures. It may be best to perform breast revision surgery under general anesthesia first, followed by labiaplasty revision procedure.

Great question. I would perform both operations at the same time, under the same anesthesia (general supplemented with some local). This would be most comfortable for you and condense the recovery times into one. I suspect most surgeons who are proficient in both operations would recommend the same.

Great question!
Many of my patients want combined body work with labiaplasty and we either perform them under the same anesthetic or separate them out close enough to have one recovery.
Since you have two different surgeons operating at two different locations/centers, I would recommend you have your labiaplasty revision the day before your breast work. You could space it out a few more days if your labiaplasty surgeon will be recommneding non-steroidal antiinflammatory meds such as ibuprofen post op. Your breast surgeon will want you off of these for at least a week.

You can have your surgeries done in the order you want. it doesn't matter. get well soon. These two operations do not affect each other. If you have your labiaplasty surgery done before, you can feel more comfortable.

Great question! There's no "correct" answer, but really what you and your surgeons are comfortable with. I would recommend doing the breast augmentation first, then waiting at least 1 week before the labiaplasty. That'll give you enough time to recover from the augmentation. Most of my patients are back to work after a week with an aug.
