2.5 years after tummy tuck. Post op numbness spreading normal?

The initial numbness could be related to nerve damage during your tummy tuck or previous surgeries. However, the spreading of numbness could indicate nerve entrapment or new nerve damage, potentially from scar tissue or other changes in the abdomen. Considering your history, it's possible that a new hernia or recurrence of a previous hernia could be contributing to your symptoms. Hernias can cause pain, discomfort, and changes in sensation.

Surgeries, especially multiple abdominal surgeries, can lead to the formation of adhesions (bands of scar tissue) that can cause pain and other symptoms. The nausea and pain, particularly in the lower left quadrant (LLQ), could indicate gastrointestinal issues such as diverticulitis, colitis, or other conditions. There could be other underlying medical conditions unrelated to your tummy tuck contributing to these symptoms.

It is crucial to follow up with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. The numbness may or may not be directly related to the tummy tuck surgery, but the spreading numbness and other symptoms should be evaluated to rule out any potential underlying issues. It’s possible that it could be related to a separate medical problem, such as a gastrointestinal issue or nerve compression. Since it has been 2.5 years from surgery and you are now well past the healing stage, this new numbness and pain is something else. Please see your medical doctor. You may need a CAT scan.

Changes in sensation after a tummy tuck are not uncommon, however to have the numbness spread two and half years after surgery is not typical. Nor are the other symptoms that you are experiencing. It's difficult to know if it's related to your surgery or not without more in depth evaluation. I encourage you to meet with your primary care physician or surgeon for an assessment.

A full tummy tuck typically leaves loss of sensation of the lower, medial abdomen. Sensation typically slowly returns to some of this area of the next couple of years. It’s not normal to lose sensation over time. follow up with your plastic surgeon or primary care physician. Repeated nausea and abdominal pain should be evaluated.
