I always wondered this and now I’m seeing doctors using ultrasound assistance machines for BBL to make it much safer. Is this a good idea and if so why aren’t all doctors and hospitals using this method? I have seen only 2 surgeons start this in FL. Is this a sales gimmick to get more patients or is this truly the best method and some physicians aren’t into paying for the cost of the machine?
Answer: Is it safe to perform a BBL with the Ultrasound Assistance? Burns have also been associated with ultrasound-assisted liposuction, as the ultrasound cannula can become very hot, and prolonged contact with the skin may result in skin damage. I do NOT use ultrasound-assisted liposuction.

Answer: BBL candidate Dear lisha100, in case of BBL surgery, fat should be transferred above the muscle in order to avoid possible complications such as fat embolism. Board-certified plastic surgeons are well trained and are able to perform BBL surgery safely. However, some plastic surgeons can use ultrasound for visualization of cannula and area where the fat is injected. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Is it safe to perform a BBL with the Ultrasound Assistance? It is confusing as to whether you are referring to ultrasound assisted liposuction such as vaser or an US to visualize the layers of the the buttock to avoid the muscle. If it is in fact the 2nd option, I think that you need to do your homework and find a board certified PS who does a large number of this type of surgery following all the safety guidelines to avoid the fat embolus. You need to ask about complications and death. Remember doing things the safe way does lead to more natural results.

Answer: Ultrasound assisted liposuction for BBL Ultrasound assisted liposuction generally referred to as the VASER is but one technique used for liposuction. VASER has the potential for aggressively removing fat. That can be an advantage in certain cases but can also lead to grotesque disfigurement when used by people who are not true experts in liposuction. Without question the worst disfigured cases from liposuction I've seen all come from the use of the a VASER. Sort of like putting a student driver in a turbo Porsche. Probably not a very good idea though the car is excellent. My practice is devoted exclusively to liposuction and fat transfer procedures and has for the last decade. I have used all of the major liposuction devices and prefer power assisted liposuction as my equipment of choice. I also recently purchased a J plasma machine for skin tightening and the combination is what works best in my hands. I've used the a VASER numerous times and I have access to a machine if I want to use it again. As I have said so many times before the only variable that matters when it comes to liposuction and fat transfer is the provider and the candidacy of the patient. You can give me any equipment from any era and I can deliver the same results time and time again. It is true that plastic surgeons who recently purchased expensive equipment often tout that equipment as being superior. I suppose I do the same to some degree recommending J plasma though this is what I truly believe and I had a choice of what equipment to buy. I don't claim the equipment makes a big difference but it's helpful and it is the correct combination based on my experience and knowledge. Instead of trying to understand the nuances of specific equipment which I hate to tell you is way above the heads of almost everyone unless you've spent 20 years getting educated and practicing plastic surgery, Focus exclusively on finding the best provider. Finding the right plastic surgeon is far more difficult than it may seem. Typically the best plastic surgeons don't have strong online presence because they're not busy advertising and using social media but rather operating and taking care of their patients. Patients are drawn to websites like real self trying to get educated. The problem is that the information is biased towards self promotion. My practice is devoted exclusively to liposuction and fat transfer procedures and has for the last 10 years. Liposuction is one of the most difficult procedures to perform well on a consistent basis. Far more difficult than I ever assumed before I begin specializing in this single procedure. I suggest having several in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons who have shown expertise with this procedure. The candidacy of each individual patient is also critical to understand in order to accept and comprehend the types of results that are possible and not possible. Some people are great candidates and will have spectacular outcomes if the procedure is done by a competent provider. Other people are not good candidates and will not have a good outcome regardless of who does the procedure. These two single variables are so important that they represent everything you should be focused on. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
