Does Juvederm Volbella cause headaches? Or cause an allergic reaction that causes headaches?

I had recently went and received Juvederm Volbella at my dermatologist for my lips. About six hours later I developed a headache that has not gone away. Now it's a week and half later and I still have pain around my eyes, forehead, and ear. I also have post nasal dripping and throat ache. I am not sure if this is an allergic reaction? I've gone and seen an ENT physician and he took a CT scan of my sinuses and said everything is fine. I normally don't have headaches or allergies.

Thank you for sharing your question.  Though anything is possible, an allergic reaction would have some manifestations at your lips such as prolonged swelling, redness, tenderness, etc.  Your symptoms appear more systemic and unlikely related to your Volbella treatment.  Hope this helps.

In my experience, no, Volbella does not cause headaches. My guess is that these events are unrelated. I would suggest that you see a chiropractor to find out if your neck is out. This can cause the kind of persistent headache that you describe.

is a hyaluronic acid filler designed to enhance the lips. It may also be used under the eyes to fill the tear troughs. For those with sinus congestion the product may put pressure on the sinuses and cause pain in that area. But when used in or around the lips Volbella is not known to be associated with headaches. Please

Juvederm Volbella does not cause headaches.  The only reaction is localized swelling or bruising in the treated area.  Volbella is a great product to treat the fine lines around the mouth.  Please consult an expert in Volbella for the best cosmetic results.  Best, Dr. Green

Thank you for your question.  It's impossible to make an exact diagnosis without assessing you in-person.  That said, allergic reactions to Volbella and other hyaluronic acid fillers are exceptionally rare.  The rare patients who do experience allergic reactions to fillers typically have visible symptoms in the treated areas - in your case, we would expect to see persistent swelling, inflammation, and nodules in your lips.     
The symptoms you're describing sound more like a systemic illness.  I would recommend that you schedule an appointment with your primary care physician to discuss your symptoms, and to see if you are experiencing a viral or bacterial infection.  I hope you feel better soon!

It is unlikely that your symptoms have any relationship to your volbella treatment.  An allergic reaction would present as swelling, lumps, bumps and redness of the area treated.  The concern would be if a blood vessel was compromised during the injection.  However, that would not cause pain without some  associated skin sign.  What you are describing sound like 'a cold'.  The ENT can check your sinuses but you should see your general doctor to see if you have a viral or bacterial upper respiratory infection which would not be visible on a CT scan.  And because the timing was close to your procedure, it is worth letting your dermatologist (the one who did your injection) know about your symptoms and see if she wants to see you for followup.I hope that answers your question.  Best wishes.
