These are photos taken 1.5 years after the procedure, with my arm flexed. I'm not sure what's the proper procedure to pursue as they seem to be hardened internal scar tissues.
Answer: Uneven liposuction Dear Versatile653682, I would have to examine you but it appears that this is a contour irregularity after liposuction. This happens often when areas the undergo liposuction are not feathered appropriately. The good news is that it can be fixed and I have done so with good results before. While there is always a chance for contour irregularities with liposuction, someone who takes their time and uses the appropriate sized cannulas should give you a superb result.I have all my patients wear compression garments and I use multiple sized cannulas to feather out the result. Answer: Managing poor results from Liposuction Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe. This is true for both patients and plastic surgeons. Liposuction results are permanent and more or less irreversible so it’s very important for patients to properly vet plastic surgeons before committing to these procedures. Ones done if the procedure is not done well it’s very difficult to change the outcome. This is especially true for patients who have been treated aggressively or had too much fat removed. This seems to be the case based on the pictures you’ve shown. The fat was taken out in certain areas leaving fat in other areas leaving you with an unnatural fat distribution that is also uneven or irregular. Treatment options that can be attempted include revision liposuction, grafting fat or a combination of both. These procedures tend to not be very successful in correcting poorly done Liposuction results. areas that were previously overtreated no lack sufficient post tissue to support fat grafting so very little grafted fat tends to survive. sense over treatment was one of the primary initial problems removing more fat can simply make the situation worse. Revision work is many times more difficult than primary Liposuction saw the importance of finding the most talented and experienced provider goes without saying. Unless you can absolutely be sure that you’re in the hands of someone who is truly mastered liposuction and fat grafting you should not have more surgery in this area. There are no non-surgical treatments they can correct this. Getting an assessment in regards to the potential of improving this well for sure require an examination and an in person consultation. Defined the most talented and experienced providers I recommend patients schedule multiple in person consultations for the local board-certified plastic surgeons who seem to do a lot of liposuction and in your case fat transfer. during each consultation ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures. For a vision of work providers may not have nearly as many pictures as they will for primary procedures. When consulting for a primary procedure an experienced provider should have no difficulty showing a minimum of 20-50 sets of before and after pictures. Highly experienced surgeons will have 100 or even thousands of before and after pictures for commonly done procedures. Ask the surgeons to show you pictures of patients with similar body characteristics to your own. asked to see results that are excellent, average and below average. If you find someone who has substantial experience revising previous poor Liposuction results and has quality before and after pictures than that speaks to what they can or cannot accomplish. Be wary of providers who think this can easily be corrected or that do use of power assisted devices like VASER can simply “break up the scar tissue”. I continue to warn people to vet plastic surgeons before having Liposuction and trying to educate the public and realizing that delivering consistent quality liposuction results is far more difficult than people believe. The truth is most plastic surgeons Liposuction work isn’t particularly good. Body contouring is a challenging procedure to master but there are those who have and patience should do everything in their power to find these most talented individuals. Finally I recommend reading all reviews and various physician review websites avoiding providers for any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. In your case you may want to consider writing an honest and professional review about your experience. I’m sure you would’ve appreciated others sharing similar experiences when you were looking into having your procedure and choosing providers. I wish I could be more optimistic but that pretty much summarizes Liposuction including revision work. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
