I am looking to get an awake bbl with lipo360, but I am nervous about experiencing nausea/vomiting after the procedure. Is the nausea/vomiting usually caused by the post-op narcotics or is it from the local anesthesia? Also, are those narcotics required after surgery or can high dose ibuprofen be a substitute?
Answer: Office bbl and liposuction Hi, post-operative or post procedure nausea can be caused by a number of things, most commonly prescription medications. . My office based liposuction and BBL is done with local anesthesia and oral sedatives and pain medications. Patients are also given an antibiotic. Patients who have not taken a particular antibiotic or have never taken a narcotic can experience nausea. It is not related to the local anesthesia. My office provides patients with anti nausea pills just in case. Good luck.

Answer: Nausea after awake BBL Dear Forceful254880, you shouldn't have nausea after local anesthesia. Some patients have nausea and vomiting after general anesthesia. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Post operative Nausea, and vomiting Postoperative nausea and vomiting, or unfortunately, fairly common after surgical procedures. There are a number of variables that increase or affect the chance of having postoperative nausea and vomiting. The culprits for nausea and vomiting are various medication used for surgery. From what you described high doses of local anesthesia and narcotics used during surgery are the most likely instigating agents. If nitrous oxide is used in, that can add to the risk as well. General anesthetic agents, especially inhaled general anesthetics have a high correlation with postoperative nausea. Women tend to have more nausea then men. I typically get a nausea history from all patients during my consultation. Understanding if patients are prone to getting nauseous, easily or how they reacted to certain medication possibly after what medication’s or how much is given. Many surgeons will give prophylactic medication. I found the combination of Zofran and dexamethasone given well and advance can significantly reduce the incidence of post operative nausea/vomiting. If you have a history of being sensitive and likely to experience nausea, vomiting from car rides, boat rides, previous pregnancies, or after taking certain medication’s, let your doctor know in advance.
