Hello, I will be having 360 liposuction to my abdomen only with a Brazilian butt lift. I am requesting information on the benefits of wearing a faja vs a compression garment to only the abdomen? Due to the strict precaution of “no pressure/sitting” to the buttocks , would a garment only focusing on the abdomen be most beneficial? When thinking of patient wearing compression stockings and sleeves only to the targeted areas after surgical procedures, I am trying to understand the difference.

Answer: Compression garments Hello, thank you for your question. So first off let's clarify that a "Faja" is a compression garment; so, for all intensive purpose, let's call them all a faja. The use of compression is to minimize swelling, improve the "reattachment" of the skin to the muscular wall after liposuction, and finally, it helps to control that bit of oozing type bleeding that goes for the first couple of days after the procedure, specially because of the enoxaparin injections. Fajas, in general, tend to have sort of pockets on the buttock area, so no compression is applied to the buttocks. I personally like the vectors created with mid thigh version of the fajas, and allows for a more even out compression. the ones that only target your mid body tend to negate the lower abdomen a bit, and panels type compression (looks like a waist trainer that fixates using velcro, will not give you enough compression, so my personal choice would be the mid thigh. My best advise is go with what your doctor recommends, in the end, his / her recommendation should be your first choice

Answer: Compression garments Most plastic surgeons, well provide compression garments for you to wear after surgery. This is fairly standard in the United States. If they have you purchase your own garments, they should give you clear instructions on exactly what to purchase. Dr. will have their own views and recommendations on this, so I suggest you ask your provider. If you haven’t chosen a provider, then I suggest having multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons who have extensive experience with the procedure. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
