How many weeks after rhinoplasty should I continue icing my nose?

I had a closed rhinoplasty on 12/9. My doctor suggested I ice my face DAILY for the first 6 months to reduce swelling and inflammation. Is this commonly accepted and/or is there anything else I can do? Many thanks
