I just had eyelid surgery last week. I originally wanted sutures or 3DST. After consulting the plastic surgeon, he kept pushing for me to do incisional method surgery. I gave in, thinking that he knew what was best. My question is, is it normal to have the eyelid crease folding on the area on TOP of the crease? The doc says it will eventually disappear. I never wanted huge eyelids like this, only wanted my inner corner to open up a little bit because I wanted a SUBTLE wider eyelid. Please help!!
Answer: Double eyelid surgery Thank you for your question and photos. Your eyes look normal for 1 week after surgery. The lid swelling above and below the incision will make the crease appear much higher than it will eventually end up. Don't fret at this point. Let the swelling resolve over the next few months and then reevaluate. Its likely that you will end up happy with the results.

Answer: Triple fold Dear Asianupton,Thank you for your question. At this stage, it is far too early to tell. Usually the folds will appear too high and the distance from the fold to the lashes will be exaggerated until the swelling resolves. You do appear to have an additional fold that is lower than the crease that was created. Generally, triple folds are above the created fold, but your previous fold could persist if the surgically created fold was placed too high. I would suggest waiting the appropriate time to determine what your situation will be. There really is no way to accelerate your healing other than waiting. You are a candidate for medial epicanthoplasty, or lengthening the inner corner of the eye. I perform a scarless variant of this type of surgery and suggest you find a surgeon that can offer this to you if you desire in the future. If you do require a revision, it would be a good time to consider this as it can improve your appearance further.Aloha,Shim Ching, MD

Answer: Large double eyelid folds It is WAY too early to tell after just one week. With the incisional method, there is a lot of swelling that sticks around for several months because lymphatics against the tarsal plate are disrupted. Because of th swelling, your fold will appear much higher and thicker than it was created. It will fall as the swelling goes down, don't worry. I would encourage you to speak to your surgeon and do not do anything drastic yourself to try to help it.
