Will PRP alone (no fillers, I'd prefer something natural) help restore volume loss in the under eye area? I have thin lax undereye skin with tissue loss. How long would the effects last? And how often should I do it? Does it tighten as well? Does it have any serious side effects? Should it be done with microneedling? Thank you.
Answer: PRP injections Hi @eye72. PRP injections will not restore volume loss. It can help skin texture by building collagen. I typically recommend 3-6 sessions for optimal results. Best of Luck, Dr. Nima!

Answer: Platelet rich plasma therapy - is it effective under the eyes? Platelet rich plasma therapy or vampire facial as it is now popularly noted as, is a ground breaking procedure that combines the incredible facts of the human body with a tweak of science to help patients aesthetically. So what does platelet rich plasma do? The vampire facial helps promote the production of elastin and collagen in the areas where it is injected. Obviously when working around the areas of the face, the patient is advised to move with caution as there may be side effects due to lack of training. What are the potential side effects? Though platelet rich plasma is wonderful in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, it can pose a danger to sensitive regions like the eyes. There have been cases where patients have faced blindness because of a thrombus/thrombi (blood clot) caused when the platelets where injected too far into the larger blood vessels. Why does a blood clot occur? Well it is just basically the body's natural response. When there is an injury, the platelets present in the blood coagulate and become fibrin to become a clot to prevent any further blood loss. When an inexperienced physician or esthetician performs the procedure, there are more risks of these blood clots occurring. How can you prevent this? By going to a professional physician, preferably a plastic of maxillofacial surgeon who knows their anatomy. Should PRP be done with micro needling? These two are a great combination to quite drastically reduce the number of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin. Can they be used for under eye circles? Though PRP can help with crow's feet, it is better to opt for options like dermal fillers or fat grafting for hollowness in the under eye region.

Answer: PRP Undereyes Thank you for your message! PRP with microneedling is a great option for the undereyes to help improve the skin texture by building collagen. While multiple treatments over the course of a few years may create some volume, that is typically not what it is used for. Dermal fillers, such as Volbella, are a great option to help with deeper hollows in that area. If you are looking to only do PRP, however, you should still see some benefit in terms of skin texture. Multiple treatments are usually needed, about 6-8 weeks apart. We usually combine PRP injections with microneedling under the eyes for the best result! I would recommend a consultation with a provider in your area for further assessment!

Answer: Will PRP help restore volume loss? Thanks for your question. While PRP injections (with or without microneedling) are great for the under eye area, it is not indicated for volume replacement. You will initially see some plumping immediately after the procedure but the work and repair is being done much deeper over time. PRP with microneedling can help under eye skin texture but not necessarily tightening of excess skin. Pictures would be very beneficial to quantify the amount of lax tissue to give you a better idea about skin laxity and tightening. We usually recommend a series of three treatments, ranging between 4-8 weeks apart for microneedling. The most common side effects are temporary redness of the skin and some local inflammation. There is also some immediate swelling involved with the PRP injections (dependent on volume injected as well). Best of luck with your treatments. Dr. Carmen Kavali

Answer: NO- PRP is not designed for volume replacement No, PRP will not work for volume replacement. Yes, for the first week you may notice a difference however its due to swelling. For a natural method of restoring volume loss, fat transfer is the only solution. Fat does not give the finesse of fillers, but it can restore volume. All the best, Dr Davin Lim.
