Why does my nose look bigger some mornings and sometimes it looks smaller 5 months after rhinoplasty?

During the healing process there is an increase in the amount of vascular supply to the surgical bed. This provides more blood flow to the area to bring the goods it needs to heal things. Unfortunately, the outflow of blood can be impaired by any scar tissue that has developed and this can take a lot longer than you would expect to resolve itself. There isn't a lot you can do about this other than sleep propped up all night.

It is part of the normal healing process for the nose to change shape from day to day and even within one day as the nose continues to heal after surgery. This is due to swelling that can be more visible in the morning, or for other reasons related to your diet, exercise, sleeping position, etc. As the nose continues to settle over the next 4-6 months the amount of changes you will see on a day to day basis will decrease. 

Thank you for your question. Residual swelling, especially in the tip of the nose, can take about a year to resolve as the contour refines. Swelling can also vary through the day, being more prominent in the morning. If you are concerned I would follow up with the surgeon who performed the surgery.
