Is it normal to have one breast softer than the other? (photos)

Dear yani2015It is very usual to have one breast get softer than the other breast, this is particularly the case when you have had different procedures done to the breasts. Keep in mind that you are only 2 weeks post op and you will have much stretching and settling coming up. Once both implants are fully settled, then you can have a sense of your final result, this usually takes 3 months or longer.

It is absolutely normal for breasts to go through different healing processes. You are 2 weeks out... I always tell my patients not to even worry about their breasts differences for 8-12 weeks. They look great BTW!Sheila Nazarian, M.D.Beverly Hills

Thanks for your question. It is normal for one side to feel firmer than the other. Think of your breast surgery as two separate surgeries... They were performed on differently and will heal differently. Swelling is most likely also coming into play. I suggest being patient.All the best, Dr. ResultsMiami, FL

This could be associated with a larger pocket made on that side or simply more soft tissue coverage. Compression brassiere may help greatly and wait at least 3 months before considering revision.

Two weeks after your surgery is too early to tell how your results are. It’s normal for a difference in healing rates. As long as you aren’t feeling any unusual pain, excessive bruising or swelling, give it about 4 months before returning to your surgery to discuss.

Thank you sharing your experience. Since your left breast is originally larger, you probably had larger implants placed at your right. Larger implant + tighter skin envelope= firmer breast. It will get softer with time. Give it more time.

You are very early in your healing phase and do have two different breasts that won't necessarily heal at the same pace. One may have more swelling than the other. Give yourself time to heal, and follow all your surgeon's advice. Usually, the breast with the larger implant may feel a little firmer since you can feel more implant than breast tissue.

At 2 weeks it is still very early in the healing process and some asymmetry is normal. As the swelling goes down and the implants soften and drop the shape of the breast will change. It usually takes 2-3 months to get to your final result. Be sure to keep any scheduled follow up appointments you have for his evaluation and advice. Good luck! Dean Vistnes.
