Ive been thinking about getting liposuction for some time now, I love my entire body except for this stubborn fat on my stomach. Ive had it since I was a child and I just want it to finally go away. If liposuction is not the answer then what is? Also I'm not looking to get a TT just yet, thanks! 5'9 21yrs
Answer: Liposuction vs Tummy Tuck Great question! This is probably one of the most often asked questions on body contouring. I always explain to patients that there are 2 issues when it comes to body contouring - volume and skin. Liposuction only treats the volume (fatty tissue) and does not treat the skin. Sometimes liposuction only can leave even more loose skin. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, is the treatment to remove the excess skin and tighten the abdominal region. So if the loose skin bothers you, then a tummy tuck procedure is the best treatment for you. However, the best recommendation can only be provided after an in-person consultation so that an appropriate physical examination can be performed and the options explained to you Best of luck and hope this information helps! - Dr. Roger Tsai @DrRogerTsai

CONTACT NOW Answer: Liposuction Thank you for your question and photo. Your concern is the "hanging stomach". Liposuction is used to get rid of stubborn fat but will not address the loose skin. In your case a tummy tuck will give you the results I believe you are looking for. However you stated you are not wanting a tummy tuck yet and you are young and could want more children in the future so it may be best to wait until you are done having kids. Have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine your goals and what they suggest. Hope this helps,Dr. Newall

Answer: When Lipo is not the answer Tht short answer to your question is "No". Liposuction Is to remove the fat underneath the skin and requires the skin to have good elasticity, or ability to recoil in order to create a good contour. When the skin is stretched or has lost elasticity from stretch marks or age, the skin does not recoil properly and the contour will not be good following lipo. Think as good skin like a balloon, and skin with poor elasticity as a plastic sandwich bag. If you blow each of these up with air, and then suck out the air, the balloon recoils and retains its shape, just smaller. The sandwich bag, however, buckles and folds leaving extra plastic and does not maintain it's shape. The same thing happens with skin that has good and bad elasticity, respectively. If you have skin with poor elasticity, you will require removal of that skin- a tummy tuck, rather than deflation of the fat which will leave you with wrinkled, excess skin and a poor result. Get the right operation for your concerns, don't try to fit your concerns to an operation. I recommend seeing an experienced plastic surgeon and discussing your goals.Best wishes,Dr. L
