Can I expect to feel stiff and develop scar tissue after liposuction?

Recovery and healing is variable to the individual, but you may have swelling, and/or tenderness, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Liposuction removes the fat that gets succed inside the tip of the cannula by avulsion of the small piece of fat as the cannula moves. There are nerve ending and blood vessels under the skin as well. Therefore if this process is repeated in the same area for a long time, the nerve endings get traumatized and will take some time to recover. This is why, one gets numbness and later on, pins and needles as the sensation starts to recover. It all depends on how agressive the procedure is and how much is removed from a particular area. Gentle liposucti on using a smaller cannula will reduce these recovery issues. An in person visit with a bord certified plastic surgeon should help answer these questions before proceeding with any surgery. You also want to know if there are chances of getting contour irregularities.

Thanks so much for reaching out.  The time you've decided to take off might be too short, depending on what areas and how much liposuction you need.   You were deafly have a period of time when you have some numbness and maybe tingling as well.  That usually all results within a few months.

Discomfort is usually based on the extent to which the location and number of areas treated. Most swelling and bruising will heal in the first 2 weeks, but can persist for up to 6-8 weeks. Patients can expect to resume normal activities in 1-2 weeks, office work in 3-5days, active jobs in 14days, exercise in 2weeks, walking, swimming, or riding a stationary bicycle a few days after surgery. #recovery #swell

Recovery from liposuction is going to depend on how much fat is removed, from where and how your body heals. Having said that, your friend's experience is pretty typical. You can expect a week to two of discomfort and it will take anywhere from 3-6 months for the swelling to fully subside. A weekend to heal doesn't sound like enough to me unless your job is very sedentary... 

Thank you for your question.  It sounds like your friend is right on course for the typical healing process filtering liposuction. You can expect to have pain for one to two weeks. The majority on the swelling will be gone in 3-4 weeks but residual swelling which can feel firm will take 3-6 months to resolve. Numbness and tingling will also take several months to resolve.

Early on there is swelling that can feel like 'stiffness' of the tissue which we typically call 'induration'.  This is normal.  The pins and needles sensation usually resolves as well within several months.  Scar tissue always forms following any procedure but more will occur following laser liposuction due to the soft tissue 'melting' that occurs with this technique.Thanks for your question.  

Yes, patients can get numbness that usually improves as the swelling goes down. Most swelling will likely go down within 6-8 weeks but there will likely be swelling for 4-6 months more.
