What will happen if I fall pregnant again after having a mini tummy tuck and limited muscle repair? Stretchmarks? Muscle damage?

I have several patients that have gone through a pregnancy after having undergone a full tummy tuck with muscle plication.  Most of them have not needed any revision surgery. A few needed a revision.  If you know for sure you will be getting pregnant in the future I would hold off on your tummy tuck but if it is not planned and it's just a theoretical question then go for it!  Good luck to you!Thomas Taylor, MD, FACSPasadena, CA

you results can be negated if you become pregnant again. For this reason, women
should wait until they are finished having children before having this

Thank you for your question.If you aren't sure whether or not you want another child, it is ok to go ahead with an abdominoplasty.  Just know that if you do get pregnant again, you may get the muscles stretched out again and develop loose skin/stretch marks and need a revision.  It's hard to predict how a woman's body reacts to pregnancy and who will need a revision and who will not.If you are planning on having another child, I recommend waiting until after you are done child bearing to get the best result that will be the longest lasting.  Best of luck!

tuck and still get pregnant and be safe, but you will restretch the abdominal skin and could be in a similar position you are now.  It is also unclear if your abdomen will expand differently with the next pregnancy (e.g. larger baby, twins, etc.).  You may need a revision after your next baby if you go through a mini-tummy now.

It’s very difficult to say what will happen to your results if you become pregnant again after your tummy tuck. However, generally speaking, most women find that their skin gets stretched out again to a certain extent, new stretch marks may form and muscles become lax. The fact that the aging process can contribute to making your body less capable of bouncing back from your pregnancy in your latter years can also be an issue.

Hello if a person becomes pregnant after having a mini tummy tuck, they could still develop stretch marks or loose abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis).  This could happen whether they have the mini TT or not.

There really is not way to predict what changes will occur with future pregnancies, and that could change your needs considerably. You will not experience muscle damage from pregnancy after muscle repair with tummy tuck but the benefits of it can be undone. A revision could be quite extensive so best to wait.

If you become pregnant after having a tummy tuck your body will still expand normally to adapt to the growing baby. The muscle repair done during the tummy tuck could be impacted. Stretch mark formation would depend on your skin elasticity. Loose skin could result, again depending on your skin's elasticity. I've included a video about stretch marks that I hope you find helpful.
