The implant made my face look really long and wider from the front. It looks terrible. I am REALLY scared that my chin will never look similar to pre-op. I had the implant put in almost 3 months ago. Can my chin ever return close to how it was before??? Please help. I thought the surgeon used silicone, but now I found out it is Gortex and I wouldn't have had it put in if I knew it would be difficult to remove.
Answer: Can a Gore-Tex implant be removed Gore-Tex and silicone chin implants can often be simply removed as there does not tend to be tissue in growth into these types of implants. There are other types of implants in which scar tissue grows into the implant which anchors it and makes it much more difficult to remove. One should always allow settling following cosmetic surgery for a number of months before deciding that they do not like the surgery. Often there can be swelling and bruising and scarring in the early time.

Answer: I thought the surgeon used silicone, but now I found out it is Gortex and I wouldn't have had it put in if I knew it would be di Hi, I have performed many chin augmentations using chin implants over the pst 30 years and have found that silastic chin implants placed through a small, curved incision under the chin are quick, easy and highly effective. I don't like using Gore-tex or Medpore implants. I have removed numerous Gore-tex implants (chin implant or cheek implants) that were placed by other surgeons. The Gore-tex implants can be easilly removed IMHO which isn't the case with medpore. If the bone wasn't altered during the chin augmentation, removal of the Gore-tex implant should allow the chin to return to it's pre-implant shape and size after several months.Hope this helps.

Answer: Removal of Gore-Tex Chin Implant Dear m0kat, I would suggest having the implant removed promptly. The longer the implant is in the more complicated the removal with Gore-Tex. It seems like you and your surgeon were not on the same page regarding your rhinoplasty or your chin implant. The type of implant being used should be discussed during consultation and pre-operative appointment so both the patient and the surgeon agree to what type of foreign body is being used. I personally do not use Gore-Tex implants as a personal choice. Discuss with your surgeon the pros and cons of the removal process and you may also want to discuss replacement with a silicone implant that is smaller then your current implant. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.

Answer: Implant removal The implant may be removed. Your age, skin elasticity, and implant size will determine how close things will return to the original form. Another option would be a genioplasty to address the facial length and width concerns at the time of implant removal. Good luck. Donald R. Nunn MD, DDS Atlanta Plastic Surgeon
