I got 1 cc juvederm to my lips this morninv. I had previously gotten resytane... juvederm hurt so bad while injecting. Worse is it swelled up so bad! My face is unrecognizable. I also couldnt sleep because of the soreness. Is this normal?
Answer: Swelling after Juvederm Dear germangirl1990,Juvederm has significant swelling post injection. I would follow up with you plastic surgeon but typically I tell all my patients to wait a full two weeks. Generally at 2 weeks they are happy and glad they didn't dissolve. In case you have severe discomfort or pain, you should consult your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery

Answer: Lip treatment I am sorry to hear that you are in discomfort. It is normal to have a little pain, swelling and bruising for some people. However It is unusual to have intense pain and I would recommend that you follow up with your treatment provider to check that there are no complications. A face to face assessment is the best way to rule this out. Cold compress will help with the swelling and arnica gel can help with the bruising. Everything should be fully settled at two weeks. Wishing you all the best and hope that the pain settles for you soon.

Answer: Swelling & Pain after Lip augmentation with Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Volbella) Yes, there can be some pain and swelling after lip injections with Juvederm. Swelling can last 1-2 weeks. Icing may help and you can also apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling. If you're unhappy with your final results you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Intense Pain is not normal Hi, Intense pain is not normal at all after lip fillers. It can hurt some while getting it injected, and this depends on the experience of the injector as well as the technique used. Swelling can persist for 1 to 3 days after injection, more so with Restylane than Juvederm products. If you ice it frequently, the swelling should be kept in check. The intense pain should not be there. Some soreness maybe, but not intense pain that keeps you awake. I would follow up with your provider to ensure you don't have a vascular occlusion that needs treated. This is something that needs addressed quickly if this is the case. Try massaging the lips gently, and using a warm compress until you see your provider. Best of luck, Dr. Giordano

Answer: Pain with lip injections Hi germangirl1990, I'm sorry to hear you're having pain post injection. As lips are one of the most sensitive areas of the body it is normal to have tenderness and swelling post injection. However, extreme pain can be a warning sign. When injecting the lips it is possible to inject into or around an artery causing a vascular occlusion, which would cause intense pain. If an occlusion were present you would notice a change in the color of the skin around your lips, giving it a greyish blue or dusky appearance. Using a cannula with minimal entry points helps to decrease this risk. I suggest following up with your injector if this pain does not subside soon or you notice a color change.
