How can I fix my lips after braces? They're turned in and small

Question

Hello! I had braces five years ago and four teeth extracted. When they came off I was devastated by the results. I have straight teeth but my smile shrunk, my lips shrunk, and I have a very flat appearance. My lips are very thin now and the upper seems to almost turn in. I'm not really into the ideal of injections because of how I've read things like Juvaderm are made. I would prefer suggestions for a long term solution if there are any ideas. Thank you so much for your insight.

HA fillers are safe and can be used to improve lip shape. These fillers, (Volbella, Restylane, Juvederm) are good to create a symmetrical and full lip. Nova threads can be used to improve lift and shape. Implants or fat are alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Braces will usually push the lips forward creating a plumper better defined lip. Your concerns are fairly common following removal of braces. You can either have dermal filler such as Juvederm injected or use a permanent implant such as PermaLip to create the changes that you're looking for. Both and very effective and create beautiful results in the right hands. Best.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry that your current lip appearance has caused you concern.  The easiest treatment is with careful placement of dermal filler to add sufficient volume to better approximate the size you had become accustomed to with braces in place.  Other options include fat grafting or dermal grafting for longer-term solutions.  Hope this helps.

There are many options for lip augmentation. Fillers now are lasting up to 2yrs which are commonly used for lips. There are also lip implant options that are permanent. 
Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. The most important thing is that you find someone who's well trained, skilled, and board certified who you can trust your face to.
