Cutting platysmal band during Ellevate neck lift? Should I not cut the band?

I am having the Ellevate neck lift procedure. The surgeon would like to cut the platysmal band, but not suture it. Should I not cut the band? I read if it's not sutured it can leave lumps. Is that true? Thank you!

I suggest doing as the surgeon wants as he likely knows this procedure very well if you are trusting them to do this. Id suggest. adding internal and external heating like morpheus anad facetite that is what we do in our practice. also suggest dermarolling, lasers, and botox long term (see link).  Best, Dr. Emer.

There are many forms of tread based neck and face lifts that keep changing names. Since introduction of sutures of any kind these lifts generally failed to produce long lasting results and turn to be waste of money and time. When someone has an anatomical problem (platysma muscle bands, external and deep fat tissue) only surgical reduction, tightening and shaping can create long lasting result. In person consultation is the only way to evaluate whether you are candidate for neck lift. Second opinion consultation is recommended. Good luck.

Thank you for sharing your question.  Cutting the band, if done properly, is not an unusual technique to address static and dynamic platysmal banding.  I would have you follow your surgeon’s recommendations as they know the full details of your goals and anticipated surgery.

When you think about it, the bands are usually in the midline under the chin, the process of only lifting them from the sides distracts them apart further and pulls them further out of position. As far as cutting the bands, it depends where but in general, care should be taken where they are cut because contour deformities can result. Suturing the bands with medial and lateral suturing with a facelift is the most practical solution without unintended results.

Cutting the bands during Ellevate is part of the procedure that achieves the results. Bands are usually cut during the necklift, but instead of suturing the bands to each other, the Ellevate suture lifts them.
