Had deepplane facelift 8days ago. Was taken back to or second morning due to hematoma. Drains removed on day4. Now day8 I have this swollen ball on one side of my neck. I'm not sure if this is newly developed or always there. It's slightly bruised, tender and semi hard semi fluid like. Surgeon told me it's rare to have recur hematoma after reoperation then what is this? Seroma? I found a picture of a lady developed the same thing I have and her result is awful with ridges now I'm worried.
Answer: Swelling and lumps in the neck following face and neck lift I don't think that the swelling you describe is a simple hematoma or seroma. If it was, the mass would likely be fairly soft and would have a fluid-like movement with pressure. The firmness and discomfort you describe and the rippling appearance of your anterior neck suggest an inflammatory process. This occurs when old blood breaks down. The red blood cells, hemaglobin, white blood cells and other solid elements in blood induce the formation of a fibrous (scar) capsule. I would suggest that you return to your doctor for diagnosis and treatment. I would first try to aspirate the swollen areas to see if there is any liquid blood or seroma that can be removed. In the absence of blood or seroma, I would inject a low dose steroid with an anti-metabolite like 5-FU to both prevent and treat the fibrous encapsulation. Massage may also be helpful but I wouldn't perform any massage until your doctor gives their approval. You should be able to prevent any long term irregularities. Best wishes.

Answer: Complication after facelift I think that what you are seeing is either a fluid (seroma or residual blood) or just post -op swelling. I would see your doctor. He can examine you and let you know what it is.

Answer: Complications post facelift; Hematoma vs. Seroma Hi, It is possible to have a hematoma or seroma recur even after they have been drained once. You need to see your surgeon again. Do not take any medications like aspirin or NSAIDS ( Advil, Motrin, etc). Do not engage in any athletic activities. See your PS.Best,Dr. Christine Rodgers
