Will a Chin Implant make my face look longer? (photos)

Question

I'm concerned that if I get a chin implant my face will look more oblong and not balanced. Will it be best to just get fillers or get an implant? The first picture is my current profile. The second picture is the front of my face. Lastly, If I were to get a chin implant would (last pic) it look like that?

A properly placed chin implant will improve and balance your proportions and profile. The implant is designed to add projection to the chin as well as influence width and height. Placement alone of the implant can lengthen the face as well if it is placed along the edge of the bony chin. Other additional procedures to address a weak chin would be the use of facial fillers and/or liposuction. I would advise having a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial aesthetics.

Without an exam your question cannot be answered.  You will need to see an Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon to see if othognathic surgery, genioplasty or using an implant is best for your specific case. It should be noted that patients with severely weak jaws or abnormally functioning jaws may be better treated with other facial surgery (orthognathic surgery), although a chin augmentation may be an option at a later time. These patients should seek the advice of a plastic surgeon to determine which course is right for them. Here is some information to help you make this decision: Candidates for Chin Augmentation - Patients whose chin profiles are weak but have normally functioning jaws are candidates for Chin Augmentation. Many of these candidates have used injectable fillers in the past to strengthen the protrusion of their chins, but are looking for a permanent solution. If you are one of these patients, then you are a likely candidate for chin augmentation

A properly positioned chin implant will not make your face look more oblong. If the chin implant was an incorrect shape or placed too low, it may make the face appear longer. However, a properly shaped and positioned implant will add width to the lower face and improve the facial profile projection. I recommend consulting with a board certified facial plastic surgeon to discuss your treatment options and desired results. An experienced surgeon will be able to select an appropriate implant for your face shape and desired outcomes.

Properly placed a chin implant should not make your face look longer. To achieve your ideal result as you have imaged, you would need either a standard square chin implant or a chin implant that is custom designed. It is not a question if whether an implant can achieve that result but getting the right implant design to do it.

Chin implants are a three-dimensional augmentation to the mandible. Most of the augmentation's forward projection for patients who have a week in recessive chin profile. In addition, there's added with due to the wings that are present on the implant itself. You have the right 'idea' in that the implant will make the face look 'thinner' unless it is tapered and augmented along the jawline so as to balance the entire jaw shape. Also, the profile can see a deepening of the labiomental fold (under the lip) and so the surgeon has to manage that area to achieve a natural look.

it will make your face look longer if the implant is placed low, not if the implant is sitting on the anterior surface of the mandible.  I would use a long, not short,  implant as a short one will make your chin look pointy. great moustache.

Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures using dermal fillers, facial implants (cheek, chin), liposuction and/or facelifts for over 30 years. Following the beauty principles outlined in my book on face and body beauty, men look chiseled and handsome with angularity in the cheeks, chin and mandibular angles.  From the photos, your cheeks are flat anteriorly (in the front), the chin is weak as are the mandibular angles.  These combine to create an elongated, revctangularly shaped face.  The following procedures would create a more ruggedly handsome face.

Cheek augmentation with cheek implants to add angularity to the cheeks and mid face.  
Chin augmentation, using a chin implant, to add projection to the chin creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  I have performed many Chin Augmentations using chin implants for over 30 years.  From the photos, your chin is weak.  A weak chin creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy and the lower face look short that de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a double chin.  Chin augmentation using a chin implant will add projection to the chin creating harmony and balance to the lower face.   I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty.  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.  In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery. Chin implants are placed to increase the forward projection, not vertically so the chin and face will not be elongated.
Augmentation of the mandibular angles using a dermal filler (jaw implants have too many unwanted side effects IMHO) to add volume, angularity and flare to the jaw line.
